1970 442 HD cooling option overflow tank?
Just wondering if anyone can tell me if this overflow tank is original to the car or added later? 1970 W30 V02 car
The faded white plastic can next to the rad.
And yes I know the VC's are on backwards. To be fixed.
Thanks and Cheers

The overflow tank shown in the car looks like it may be from a Buick.....possibly an "early production" '70 GS, etc. The "early production" '70 Buick overflow tanks had the clear top like yours has. Sometime during the '70 production run they went with a black plastic top and kept using that through '72.
It could be from a pre-70 Buick but I'm not familiar enough with those years to know.
If it's in nice condition then they are sort of a "sought after" piece.....someone with at survivor type GS, etc might pay decent $ for it.
EDIT - can't see where the hose hookups are on the overflow tank.....wherever they are may provide a better clue on the application.

Thanks for the info everyone.
I suspect its an early Buick tank too. The car is very original right down to the paint and stripes. I'm betting the tank was installed by the first owner over long ago.
The black washer bottle seems to be original to the car too, but I can't verify that....yet.

You can do what you want but if it were me, I would sell the Buick tank on a Buick forum and get an Oldsmobile tank depending on how much the Buick tank is worth. The Olds repops are 200.00. wtf?
Maybe that Buick tank should stay as a conversation piece.

I believe the overflow was dealer installed on the 71' if brought back for a cooling fluid issue and on the 72's it was standard. I'd suspect this was due to the EPA being established around this time and they didn't want the anti-freeze running into the environment. Every A body I had dumped fluid out of the overflow. 1 had the overflow tank and very seldom did I have to top off the coolant.
