Color of 442

This 442 was a special order paint code Rallye Red. The new pics show the color more accurately. Usually you see W-30 cars with this color with a white roof and white striping.
My car has really unusual factory colors. It decodes as Pearl White interior and black roof. Usually the roof color matched the interior, but I like the black "muscle" look.

I like the fact that you went with the standard 442 (non-W30) pins too.

Unsolicited opinion here:

Actually, it's not unusual to have the top one color and the interior another.

I would think that with pages and pages of discussion about special-order cars, you'd know by now that an extra-cost color is not "special-order" the same way your Cutlass Supreme is.

Sure it is, it wouldn't have came that way unless it was "Special Ordered" that's what I want on my thread. Diego you can make your very own thread if you want

Jeff, start with WOW!! Gorgeous car. You should be proud.

re: Rallye Red *code 73* I LIKE IT! In photos the Rallye Red has a tendency to show more like a Flame orange. Wierd, but it's been discussed here quite a few times.

re: vert top? Like Diego said - not uncommon for different color tops. If you want to know what the original color combo was - check your cowl tag. It will either have PNT 73 (or -- -- instead of the code) and then a letter for the top. A - white top, B - Black top. Your trim code should be: 937

I see you also went with the factory correct color on SSII's. Well done

BTW, if this car was originally exported to Canada you can get documentation from GM Vintage Services about it. http://www.gm.ca/gm/english/shopping/parts/vintage
or: http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...13403915590003

BTW 8 months to get that back on the road is fantastic. Enjoy the thumbs up it's gonna get!

Well, this is my data plate and what I seem to find in the research, but I stand to be corrected:

ST 70 34467 E 434 BDY

TR 977 WA 4007 B PNT

11C A 31

* 70 = model year
* 34467 = Olds (3) 4-4-2 (44) convertible (67)
* E = An "E" in the VIN would mean the car was assembled at the Linden, NJ plant. On the trim tag, though, it normally reads "BL".
* 434= This is the body number. 434 would mean this was the 434th convertible "A" body assembled at the Linden plant for model year 1970.
* 977 = interior color and seating arrangement parchment (pearl white) bucket seats
* WA is the Dupont code for one of the 4 special order colors. Rallye Red though was WA 4007. Others were Sebring Yellow, Nugget Gold, Agean Aqua.
*Convertible top color which is B is black top.
* 11 c= time build code. 11 is November and c is the thirdweek in that month.
* A31 = option code for power windows.

You nailed it Except WA is the prefix to all of the GM codes from around '59 - early 80's for all colors not just Special Order colors

Yup, my error on the 937 - that was the code for the 34477 model. Although its the same color and material...one of GM's great unexplained.....

The 34467 model still has the same color, but is coded differently as a CS. It's actually shown as 977v which denotes all vinyl trim. Good job on the decode. Did not know that Dupont code. thx.

Sounds more and more to me like I needs to come down there and move in.....

40 min drive is hardly worth starting it... Ted, not to jack the thread but I'm seriously thinking of a 72 Delta Royale with 455 power down in the US. Looks pretty nice. Need to check out the purchase/transfer title and border crossing issues....

1970 442 Tire Recommendation

Any recommendations for radial tires on my SSII 14" rims? Size and brand?

Most folks use 225/70/14 on stock 14" rims. BFG and Cooper Cobras are about the only mainstream choices since Firestone stopped making the Indy 500's in that size. Firestone does have cheapo Primewells if you put blackwall out.

I went though the tire dilemma last year for my 70 W30. I finally decided on reproduction Polyglas GTs. I am very happy with the look and was pleasently surprised by how well they drive.

Unsure about bottom of hood extension

A few parts suppliers can't tell me what, if anything, goes at the bottom of the hood extension. Anyone?

Your car is absolutely beautiful. You should be very proud. There are little rubber bumpers that go in the 4 holes on the hood tooth. If you look in the Fusick catalog on page 66 it is item #GB11.
