I've seen them around other places too. They seem too cheap for some reason? With the prices of the oversize wheels it may just seem that way?

Those wheels do look nice, but is that a bolt on or snap on center? I know a guy in the Portland area who takes the early 14X6 or 7 wheels, cuts the centers out and welds them into 15X7 or 8 blanks. I bought a set of 15X7 SSI's with chrome rims from him and was very pleased. I'm sure there's other wheel shops around the country that could to this. John

As I understand it the 1969 Hurst Olds had a 15X7 with a bolt on center cap and the rim was chrome plated instead of using a stainless trim ring. In 1973 and 74 Olds made both a 14X7 and a 15X7 bolt on center wheel that was painted body colored, no chrome plating. These 15X7 wheels are very hard to find. But you can have the center of a 14" wheel cut out and welded into the 15" rim, chrome plate it, then paint the center and have something very similar to the 1969 Hurst Olds wheel. You can also post a question on the Hurst Olds vehicle lineup and talk with 2 or 3 guys who have 1969 Hurst Olds'es! John

Heres some of the info i found on the SSII's
The second wheel offered for intermediates by Oldsmobile was the Super Stock II, GM part number 400422. Introduced in 1968 as option code N66, this wheel was a 14" X 6" stamped steel rally with a 5 lugs on a 4¾" bolt circle. It was painted grey with the raised areas surrounding the 5 holes painted a brighter shade of silver. This wheel incorporated a brushed, stainless trim ring and a large center ornament held in place by five machine screws.
In 1969, this wheel basically remained the same, save a few changes. First, the wheel now used five chrome bezels around each of the holes. Second the wheel no longer had the raised areas painted a different shade, the whole wheel in now painted grey. For the Hurst Olds, however, the wheel received a chrome rim (in place of the beauty ring, pictured below) and was 15" X 7" with the center area still painted grey (although some of the '69 H/O's you see will have gold painted centers).

I know the dealers painted the centers gold on some cars, right? I think I can understand why. The gold center looks really classy as if Hurst put some additional thought into the overall look of the car while the gray center looks sort of out of place - like the wheels came off a different car or something. just my opinion.

Well, the rim part of the wheels on my 69 H/O has the same contour as the rim part of the 15x7 SSII wheels that I have. In all likelyhood, the Buford wheels used the same stamping. Keep in mind that the rim part of the 15" wheels looks different than on the 14" wheels, since the center disk is the same diameter on both.
