1968 questions- has a 70 455 4 speed...

I am enjoying my new to me 68, and am formulating a list of things I need to fix over the summer. Some questions to help in my repairs..

1. This one is a priority!! Previous owner has a fuel line running from the fuel tank to a FOLGERS (coffee) can on the PS radiator support. I am assuming this is some type of return line, as it fills to 1/3 of the way. The car is a 68 442, with a 70 455 in it. I did see that the tank is new, and has the 69? style 2 vent lines going to the plastic vent. I assume this is correct for a 68?
2. I have to replace the fuel sending unit, as the fuel gauge is off by 1/4 of a tank. Should there be a return line from the fuel pump?
3. E brake cable routing. It should go UNDER the exhaust, correct? I know on Buicks it routes under...
4. There are aftermarket sending units to make the rally gauge cluster functional?

This fall/winter it will be get the gauges functional, new interior, fix the damn E brake cable rattle, disc brakes, figure out if there is a way of cutting the hood hinge base off of the 68 and have Willie at the hood hinge place do the same with a 69 hood hinge, fix the radio, box the rear control arms, and other small things.. The fuel issue needs to be fixed NOW....

Thank you

Not all fuel pumps have the return line. I would suggest you check the 1968 fuel pump and if it doesn't have the return line install it instead of the 1970 pump. John

A/C cars have the fuel return line and matching tank.
Like John said get the pump for a car W/O A/C with no return. There is no 100% safe way to cap that return nipple off.

The E-brake cables should be above the exhaust, routed through the trans support cross-member, for a factory 68 442 TH400 OEM cross-member.

Troubleshoot the fuel gauge problem don't toss parts at it. Could be the gauge, the wiring/connections, grounds or the sender. The float rod might be bent hindering full travel.

I don't understand what you are doing with the 68 only hood hinges. Trying to make the 68 hood have more vertical lift like a 69?

If the trans was swapped to a THM 400, it's possible they didn't switch the e-brake cable when the moved the cross member back to fit the larger trans.
