1967 Cutlass Transmission

I was wondering what transmissions were available for a 1967 Olds Cutlass with a 330 engine. I have not got the car yet and can only assume it is a Jetaway Tranny but am not sure if they still used the 2 speed in 1967

Thanks!

Your right it's probably going to be the switch pitch jetaway.

To be honest I could not tell you what a switch pitch is....I don't know much about tranny's... just keep reading stuff on the net. Was that considered a reliable tranny and is the same one that some people say was like starting out in 2nd gear?

Thanks!!

other than the manual transmission option(s), the switch-pitch jetaway was the standard transmission, the turbo hydramatic (TH400) was an option on some series of the a-bodies.

The TH400 was only offered behind the 400 in the A-body cars in 67, so that would be the 442, the Vista Cruiser with the 400, and the Supreme with Turnpike Cruiser option. All other Cutlii got the Junkaway as the only automatic. The Jetaway was used from 1964 through 1969, when the TH350 replaced it as the automatic used behind small blocks. FYI, I did own a 68 Vista Cruiser with a 350 2bbl and a TH375 (the low-po TH400).

Switch Pitch trannny's had two different torque converter stall speeds. Higher stall for better launches, and lower stall for better highway cruising. Really not sure what was up with GM using 2 speed automatics, as had one on a 68' Pontiac as a kid, but that quickly gave way to a TH400 transplant. Kenne Bell actually sold performance TH400's with switch pitch converters, but have no experience with them.

67 442's with TH400's were switch pitch also.
