1967 442 info needed
My father-in-law is giving me a 67 442.
Long story - but his has been sitting in the woods for quite some time and people are now picking parts off it...so the prevent further theft, I'm taking it home.
I am a mopar guy...and know absolutely nothing about GM products.
I do know the motor is a 400 with auto trans.
He also said at some point he swapped out the rear ends for a beefier unit.
It is red, hard top, has all original metal and interior (minus console).
My questions:
I plan to rebuild the motor...are the internals forged or cast?
Where is the best place to buy repop exterior pieces...lenses, bumpers, etc.
What type of production #s are there on something like this? (may change the build plans if limited)
Any other info appreciated.

Welcome to the site Tommy. There's several members here with 1967's, me included. So as you begin work on the car feel free to post questions that come up. Here's a link to another site specific to the 1967's

This will help with many of the questions you mentioned. But a couple others, the 1967 400 engines all came with forged crankshafts. There are several aftermarket companies that make repop parts, my first stop is Fusick. Several members here have had bad experiences with BAP and Billions & Trillons, use the search function to see what they say about them. Then there's several members here with used parts for the items you can't find or don't need as new.
Please share pictures of your car when you have time. Also, if you would post your location or the nearest big city there may be someone close by who can help in person.

Welcome. Without photos, hearing about a car that's been "sitting in the woods with people picking parts off of it" doesn't bode well. The 64-67 cars are not well supported by the repro aftermarket, so replacing missing parts, fixing rust, etc, can very rapidly take more money than the car is worth when done. I'm certainly not trying to discourage you, but be realistic with your assessment of the car and your investment. (No, that's never stopped ME before, either...
)
Check the frame and also check the body for rust. The 66-67 cars are prone to rust at the base of the back window and the cowl. A car sitting in the woods (presumably with leaves piled up in these areas) will not have aged well. Fortunately, these two areas are common with Chevelles and repro panels are available for them. Good luck.

The 67 442 is, I think, the most aesthetically pleasing other than the 70-72, and has more power than all but the 70 model. Many things from 68-72 can be used, but the hard parts are exterior and interior trim to find. Mine had the Chevelle rear panel transplant done prior to my owning it, and, although it's a basket case, at least it's not a rusty one.
