1966 Front Suspension Rebuild

Hey fellas,

Sorry to have to ask this but is there a thread that has an overview and or a technical sticky (or what ever) for a rebuild of a 1966 Cutlass' front suspension.

I am about to bust all of mine loose for a front disc conversion and want to rebuild/replace the suspension while it's all apart.

I have done this/been involved doing this before it's just been awhile and I want to study up on what's new and improved etc.

Thanks for the help,

Just did my 68 and unfortunately there is really no updated way to do it. Elbow grease.. Make some spacers to keep from collapsing the control arms while installing new bushing. A air hammer and chisel help removing the bushings a press helps to install.

Everything is available except the centerlink from Moog. Pretty straight forward Rob. I can walk you through it if you want.

You need to be careful about the center link. The 65 middle of the year and the 66/67 units are different from the Chevys. OPG was selling the Chevy unit for Olds and I damn near had to sue them to return it. That's why I will NEVER buy from OPG again,NEVER.

I used my car as a test vehicle for Proforged to develop their center link kit, Double check with them on these parts.

IIRC the early center link was 13/16" diameter and the late 65 thru 67 was 7/8". I got mine from Kanter.

The tie rod holes /idler arm & the pitman arm pins are also larger along with the actual diameter.

I believe you have it reversed. I think the earlier model was 7/8" and the later model was 13/16". That is at least how Fusick has it listed in their catalog.
