1966 442 Fender Vent Painting

Does anyone have a template for painting the inset color ( black or argent ) on 66 442 fender vents ?
I have restored several over the years and had always thought a template for painting would be the way to go and would look more original that masking with tape .

Thanks

I'd buy a template, see that it's off by a micron, and use masking tape. It's hell to be ****.

The easiest way is to completely cover the vent and cut out the painted areas with an X-acto knife.

Most of the black is recessed, mask off what you can with tape, paint and wipe off the chromed high spots with acetone.

The whole idea of the template is not to have a sharp taped paint edge. Originally when the vents were painted at the factory they used some sort of template for painting. The edge of the body color line and the black or argent paint line was fuzzy and not sharp. ( just like the paint on original 66 headlamp bezels ) I am trying to reproduce that exact look .

I am sure I am the only one who would know the difference or even care but I do and can't help it . Just ask 66-3x2 442

Junior,I was just affirming your statement about being ****,what's the problem? I know you're under a lot of pressure in fear of the red dot and I don't really blame you but you are your own worst enemy.

Dad
