I am thinking about buying a 1965 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 it has the 425 2 barrel engine 310 hp. I was wondering if it has the correct air filter it uses a A124C filter and the part number on the air cleaner assembly is 6420958 is this the oringinal air cleaner assembly?? its painted black , I thought it was supposed to be red , also what color should the block be ??does anyone have a picture of one ? thanks Joe

Black is the correct air cleaner color, I believe, for the low-compression version of the 425. At least, for 1967, a black air cleaner on a 425 would have been correct in some situations. Red was the correct air cleaner color for high-compression versions of the 425. I'm not sure of the situation for 1965. Others will likely know.

 

Yes , this the same assembly , but the part number is 6420958 maybe someone has a parts book to confirm the number ,thanks
