I'm not '65 expert, so I can't say whether it was an option, or something else, but some cars definitely have it, while others do not, so it appears as though it is consistent with the original appearance of the car.

I have always believed they were standard equipment.

RPO U40 Lamp, Parking Brake Signal. A $3.98 option that year.

RPO U40 was a bargain at only $3.90 for the 1966 model year. For 67 it was standard equipment since the Feds required the differential pressure switch and BRAKE light in the dash due to the dual circuit M/C.

Anyone have a pic of how the switch is mounted to the e-brake mechanism?

I took a look at the one I have and it dawned on me why I was having such a hard time figuring out how it mounted. Mine is missing the little mounting bracket. Anyone have one floating around?

Cars of that era do not have an E-brake.. It is a P-brake.

I have one in my 64 F-85 never gave it a thought that it was an option since my car did not come with back up lights.

Well, to be pedantic, rear drum parking brakes WILL work as emergency brakes. Rear disc "inner drum" parking brakes will simply smoke themselves since they're stupid. But, you are, when you hammer that parking brake, engaging the actual rear brakes of the car, albeit not at the pressure the hydraulics would do it. I have gotten an A body home from a car show by downshifting and the parking brake. It was not hard, most annoying thing was making a whole lot of noise through the Ravens putting it down into first each time I stopped.

I guess the idea, pre-dual cylinder, was you found out you had no brakes via more obvious things than a light?

When drilling the dash, look first on the backside. Some of them had a dimple to indicate the exact location for the hole.
