Hi Stan, Just had the fellow over that sold me my last 442. He Knows a lot more about them than I do, and checked this one out a bit and concluded the frame is definitely 442. The car is an original air car, he believes. Whether the frame numbers match the body, remains to be seen. He said he saw this one for sale and thought it was a clone, also. After seeing it up close, he said he would have snapped it up in a heartbeat. If he was just trying to make me feel good, it worked !! Dave

On close inspection, the frame appears to have no numbers, or they've been ground off. In 2002 sombody installed propane in the car. The bracket got welded to the frame about an inch or so to the left of the exhaust hanger holes. It's really smooth there, and I'm betting it got ground down clean for a nice weld, or the bracket is welded over the number.
At this point I'm just going to use Bro's wisdom, if it's got a solid one-piece frame, it's a 442 frame. If it's got the 4 holes on the upper control arm brackets, it's a 442 frame.
All the badges on the car inside and out, say 442.
Reg says 442.
Body tag and VIN indicate Fremont.

The headlight grille pieces have the black paint on them (the grille itself is a little different, some paint on the lower middle bar).

From this day forth it shall be a Fremont 442. Thanks to all who offered advice. This search, rightly or wrongly, is over.

Hello again oldsmobiledave,
Be happy to show you the car. It's in a lean-to I built beside the house, nice and dry, and enough room to squeeze around it and get a decent look. My bigger problem now is the F85 parts car. I usually sell off the parts I don't need, to cover the cost of the parts car. In this instance, I can't stand the thought of selling any parts in case I need them later. I took the rusty hood to the barn at Lake Cowichan. At least it's straight, should I ever need it. I suspect the rest of the front end will be joining it soon !!

Hi Stan, I wouldn't mind finding a 2 door 65 Cutlass or F85 or even a wagon so I could use up some parts, but they just aren't around. I'll store as many parts as I can, and maybe someone will need a frame when I get down to it. Like to find out how cheap plasma cuters can be had. My dad's friend has one and they cut through stuff like butter. I'm getting tired of cutting up my parts cars with sawz-all and grinder. I'll try to sell the 4 door body shell on the frame, later. It's got nice straight, solid quarters. If no luck, the quarters can join the rest in the barn. Luckily I have no animals in the stalls !!

Is your lower chrome missing or imperfect? I got almost 2 sets of lower chrome with the 442, and a complete set on my 4 door. Some pieces are the same. All my wheel well mouldings have some dings or dents, but oddly enough, the 4 door ones are virtually mint. If there's anything you need that I can spare, I can always bring it to LC one weekend, and let you take a look. I assume since you have a parts car, you probably want to upgrade to mint.

lower chrome is tough to find in good shape, just picked up a set from ohio, its all better than mine, but some need rechroming. four door chrome is probably rarer but you need a buyer, i need lower chrome from the back window,2 door, my bumpers are ok but just drivers, would love to have you stop buy some time you here again, i live on the old lake cow hwy, so not out of your way

Stan, will stop by for sure. I'm sure I drive right by your place frequently, often in a green 66 Ford 250 pick up. I keep it insured at the house. Just noticed the sides are covered with small rust spots bleeding into the old paint. Think it's original, too, which is a shame. Guess it doesn't like the barn. The end is open and lots of air flow, but still it's unhappy. Maybe something coming up through the dirt floor that's eating the paint. Previous owners all had animals in the barn. It was fine for years just sitting in the rain. May have to pry open the wallet and re-paint it one day. Garage has two other cars in it, so it's the barn or the great outdoors, and I really don't like changing rotten window channels.
Give me an e-mail if you want, and I'll let you know when I'm coming over next. You can give me your address and I'll pop in at some point. davemel@telus.net
