1964 Canadian Car needs decoding
I received an email from a person on a Canadian Forces Base that just purchased a 1964 Olds. She doesn't know a lot about it and to be honest, 1964's are not my strong suit. She asked me for help and I'm asking people here who know.
Her VIN reads: 43447058755. This seems to jive with my 64-76 GM parts catalogue however the other books I have don't mention the Canadian versions.
From what I can tell, the 4 is the year, 344 is the style, and the rest....?? Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Ken, you sure it starts with a 4? 64 model VINs should start with 6 or 8 - that's the code that describes the engine.
The second number decribes the series - in this case if it's 3 - it's a jetstar (33 series)
The third number is the model year - 4 = 1964
The 4th placeholder should be a letter to identify the production plant.
58755 is the vehicle number
Can you get a picture of the VIN? Somethings not right with the transcribing.

According to the parts catalogue 4 = yr, 30 = Series 27 = body style and the rest is the unit number. It doesn't say what 30 means...F85 or Cutlass or what 27 means, 2 door, 4 door or convertible. My American books say what you're saying, but that won't help her. People are telling her the VIN is wrong. I don't think it is...for a Canadian car.

From http://www.v8cars.hu/oldsvin/decode.php I had to delete the last 5 since '64 VINs only have 10 characters
