1964 442 What-if car?

I've always thought an interesting build would be a 1964 442 with a 394, instead of the 330, just to see what it would be like with a more powerful/obsolete/389-esque engine. Has anybody else ever wondered about this, or even done it? I want to hear your thoughts on this.

That would be pretty cool. Kind of like the rare 65 Impala 409 cars

I am not familiar with the older engines. Does it have the same mounts as the newer blocks?

No, 394's have a completely different mount setup. They won't bolt directly to a modern BOP trans, either. You'd need an adapter.

An easier swap would be a 1965 400 as the HP (345) was the same as the 63-64 Starfire 394. And the 400 will bolt right up to the 1964 Jetaway/stick.

I picked up a complete 425 out of a '66 Toro that I will be transplanting into my '65 Vista. It will have the aircleaner with toro pie pan and everything. Even painted the proper metallic blue. I want it to look like a factory installation. A "what if" car if you will.....

Most if not all 394ci engines I've seen had 2 barrel carburetors. I'm guessing the Jetstar was the 4 barrel exception.

Why not install a turbocharged Jetfire engine (215ci). You can then claim "what if / experimental" 442

Now are you going to put the whole drivetrain in, or just the engine?

The whole point really isn't about getting a better engine, just making a cool what-if car. And couldn't you theoretically use a three-speed bellhousing behind the 394, and then attach the four-speed to that?

All the 88s had the option of a four-barrel, with the Starfire, Jetstar I, and 98 coming with one standard. I'm not sure if the super did or not.

The turbo 215 would be cool too, but I think the heavier 1964 Cutlass would bury a lot of the engine's potential.

Now a turbo'd 330....
