1958 j2 vacuum source
I finally installed all of the j2 vacuum lines, carburetors, linkage etc. that I have had for a few years for my 1958 Super 88 Convertible. All of the parts were of excellent quality.
My problem is that the secondaries don't kick in and I want to make sure I understand everything involved before I try to figure out the problem.
Is the vacuum from the wiper motor the real source for the secondary carbs kick in? There are so many lines involved in the kit I bought that I want to make sure that I am just attacking the isolated problem of the secondaries not activating.
Any comments or help?
Thanks in advance.
PS: If this is the true source, how do I measure the vacuum available?

The rubber vacuum hose from the fuel pump to 'front lower' port on centre carb switch, side port on switch goes to front diaphragm, metal vacuum line on fuel pump goes to forward port (5/16) on centre carb right side, rear port (3/8) goes to power brake vacuum pipe near fire wall, top port of vacuum switch goes to front carb. Try that.

Not saying that you can't get a J2 carb system set up correctly but they were problematic from the beginning. Many people went to progressive linkage or switched to a 4 bbl manifold and carb to get around that vacuum system..... Tedd
