I normally wouldn't post this here, but this is such a rare piece that I thought folks would be interested. It's a 1919 Olds Touring Car with the original flat head V8. Yes, Olds built it's first V8 LONG before 1949.
I know buy it now is all the rage, but ebay is an auction site. Good luck getting 15k for that.
A fool and his money...
Example, I was watching Jay Leno's Garage and they were discussing how buying unrestored cars for big money is now all the rage. He spoke to a man that actually paid $90K (yes, 90 thousand dollars) for this car. He has no plans to restore it. He wants to leave it completely unmolested. He even kept the nudie books and panties that he found in the back seat and left them there. He has not even washed off the dirt.

And don't believe everything you see on TV or on line. That Daytona has already been cleaned up, made running, and featured by Hot Rod.
Not exactly in the same league as a 1919 Olds. You can probably count the number of surviving Oldsmobiles of that vintage on one hand.
Little off the post, comments, but years ago, I was at a car show, and, I think it was a 1914 car? Anyway, the guy started it up, it was something to watch him start. First time I knew Old made a V8 before 1949.
I like that he says offered at $15k firm but at the bottom open to offers? I suspect its a late night sneak inside the fence to get pics and post for sale scam. What legit seller would post such lousy streetlight only photos and ask 5 figures?
Definitely something not right with that - What legitimate seller takes photos of a car behind a gas station in the middle of the night?
- Eric
I wouldn't read too much into that. Blythe is in THE middle of nowhere. It's the first town in CA you come to when driving west on I-10 from Phoenix. I get the impression that the seller doesn't live there and only had a small window to take the photos.
Trivia: Blythe used to have the largest McDonald's in the world, until they built the one in Moscow. Later, unfortunately, the one in Blythe burned down.
Wasn't that engine cast in two half's then bolted together because the metallurgy wasn't advanced enough to cast that large and complex single piece? Or I'm thinking of another first timer V8.... Tedd

Wouldn't this be a Northway Engine used in a Oldsmobile?
Did not know that in 1919 there was a V8 option besides the straight six.
The earliest V8 I've seen, was yesterday at the Pavilions car show. It is one of the less then half a dozen running 1930 Viking Oldsmobiles left in the world. Made in 1929 and discontinued in1930. The Viking was made as an upscale addition to the regular Olds lineup. Made in Lansing of course, this one is an all original running example with a 260 cu inch flathead! The owner was delighted to join our local Olds Club and will hold bragging rights as having the oldest one in the club.
I believe chevy had a V8 in 1917 and it was even overhead valve. 288 CID and something pitiful like 55 HP. Of course it only had 4.75:1 compression so low Hp makes sense.

I think that is right but that chevy motor wasn't installed in that 1919 olds was it?
Wow it appears the experts are out to lunch on this question of is this a Northway engine! How about who bought this car? Maybe we can glean some more info.
