$1000 REWARD - 70 442 W30 parts stolen

Today was a very sad day for me when I walked out to what was a 100% numbers matching 70 442 W30 car and noticed some piece of sh_t stole the original carb, intake, heads, manifolds, steering column, a/c box , wiper motor & radiator and my console & gauges from my 69 LM1 car. I sick and don't know what to do. I called the local pd dept and they wouldn't even attempt to locate finger prints stating that even if they found finger prints it could take as long as 6 years, yes years to check the prints. I'll give $1000 reward for information that leads to the arrest/conviction of the person who stole my parts. Please keep an eye out for these parts for sale on line or hear of anyone looking. I'm located 15 miles south of Pulaski TN right on the TN/AL state lines. I'd be so grateful for any help in getting these parts back and return the favor through reward or whatever I can do to help another person who loves this hobby like I do.

I think I'm going to be sick. That's a horrible story. I hope you can at least find a safe place to store what's left of the cars. Still a lot of value left, and they might not be finished.
I hope things improve for you.

Sorry to hear about this, I think the biggest problem is the officer who took the report is Lazy I had my wheels stolen off my car last year the detective was amazing had my wheels back in less the 24 hrs. I hope that the detective on this case pulls thru and a neighbor or someone saw something

Thanks. Amazing how people have no respect for other's belongings. They could've stole most anything other than parts off of that car which are irreplaceable.

Sorry to hear about the theft, I woud request prints/DNA be taken form the area(s) with so much oil/grease I'm sure there would be usable prints. Ask for a shift supervior if needed. Pictures of your parts would also help, I know there are no unique numbers on those parts, but it would help a police officer understand what he/she is looking at if they conduct a stop on a car and a carb is sitting in the back seat.

Contact the Auto theft division of you police department, they usually understand.

Hello Jay,
I am so terribly sorry to hear this disgusting news. I know the emotional roller coaster your going through. Someone obviously knew what you had, and was familiar with Oldsmobiles to steal the virtually irreplaceable items. Get the word out within the Oldsmobile community locally and anyone into muscle cars of any make, car clubs, machine shops, mechanics, etc...cast the net far and wide, network, network, network! Hopefully leads will develop soon. If your local law enforcement didn't take prints, have them return ASAP to conduct finger printing your car. This will be a painful process, keep the faith....as I know all to well as this week I reunited my original '70 W30 ram air hood which was stolen 19 years ago, yes, 19 years of being MIA. Wild freaking story behind it all, but it's now back home where it belongs. I attribute it to my tenacity, never giving up and constantly on the lookout, paid off for me in the end, but 19 freaking years....

Sorry to hear that some low life destroyed your car.
Where was the car at?
It took some time to take all you said, must have been inside and you had not been around for a few days.
So sorry for this to happen, sure hope you get parts back.

I agree, it's most likely someone you know or a friend of a friend.. When I was restoring my 70 442 convertible about 20 years ago, someone broke into the shop it was in and stole stereos, speakers, gauges, etc. from 10 other cars that were in the shop. The only car that wasn't touched was mine, so naturally the police thought I was a suspect. The owner of the shop defended me and we later found out it was two guys from a near by shop that did it. The only reason they didn't touch my car was they knew who I was through other people and knew if they touched my car they were in for the beaten of a lifetime.

I'm sorry about parts missing.. But I have to ask.. These people break into a garage or storage facility? These cars carry such a presidency you can't leave them out of your site for long period of time..I have a detached garage with motion lights to light up the neighborhood at night if someone where to walk up..and an alarm if any intruders try to break in..can't take chances this is big dollar investments.

Sorry to hear that happened to you but as an ex police officer I will tell you a secret, 90% of all burglaries that occur the thief lives within 2 miles of the site, and as someone else previously said they bet that someone you know or who knows you did it! Keep a sharp eye out and all ears open and with close friends and maybe you will find that low life scum feeder. A thief is nothing but a coward because he steals from a man who works for what he has and he hasnt the guts to go out and work for it!!!

Jay, I'm sorry you're going through this. But climb up the ladder at the PD. Be very persistent and stand your ground to keep this investigation going.

Very sorry to hear this. As said, climb the ladder at the police department. They don't fish through books looking for finger prints anymore. They load into a computer and it does the work. You had a lazy cop who needs a wake up call.

Be sure your local PD becomes aware of the dollar value of these parts, you have a serious thousands of dollar felony crime. It's not just some old car parts.

You need to seriously look at who knew that car was there. The only people that will mind being asked about it are the guilty.

Yes, maybe that was lost on them

Some rough estimates of values:

2500 original carb,
1500 intake,
5000 heads,
500 manifolds,
300 steering column,
500 a/c box ,
200 wiper motor &
400 radiator and my
1500 console & gauges
=====
12,500 would be a fair guess for exact correct dated parts. Plus the time to find them.
$20k or so probably total. WAY into felony territory, with any ONE part.

To re-emphasize what I said earlier, a car show is fine to show your car. But, you shouldn't let anyone but the most trusted even know you have a car, let alone where it is. I hid my Chevy in the hood of Terre Haute for years, and I'll get my Olds out soon. Every homie in the hood would want either of them, but I always make sure no one would see them coming in or out of their garages, nor be able to see into them when closed.

You're kidding me? Nashville? Low crime?

Edit: Sorry, had a car stolen from there while in school. That city has some serious bad areas.

Back on topic: The Olds community is a small one. Keep at it, it's someone you know, and they will
try to sell to someone we know on here, or be used by someone we know here.

To me it could be someone looking for something they could sell for quick cash. But where do you sell un-noticed..Ebay, a swap or craigslist....? I would imagine you would need to lay low for a while for that. The other possibility is as said someone wanting parts for their own use or they know someone looking for said parts. You need to be a real scumbag to take those parts from an original car. I hope something turns up to your benefit.

How about using the $1000
on a private eye. Let him work
off a percentage back maybe.

I agree on the homework and the value
of parts on paper though for all to see.
Lazy cops is probably a real possibility too.
Get those scumbag bastards any way you can.
Did you have any classic ins. on it?

Also sounds like a real pain in the a$$ to remove those particular parts, so it's probably somebody that's a mechanic/builder/restoration professional. It's a small community, I'll pass the word around.

Yep, Nashville has it's bad spots, but mostly I've found it's really nice. Y'all come visit when you have a chance

They will get caught with that kind of exposure!! Thanks for posting and good job Jay for getting the news people involved!!! If you want to talk estimates on parts A friend of mine sold a 69 Hurst Olds intake for 16,500.00!!! He sold his 70 442 W30 for 225,000.00 and Troy Thorton sold his at the Jackson Barret West Palm Beach for 260,000.00! So putting a value on those parts can be tough but your insurance needs to know!!! One car in New Jersey was damaged by the hurricane last year it was under sea water and he was paid 198,000.00 for his car! by the insurance company. Thought you might like to know

Yeah pretty obvious why police don't want to give time of day, Who the hell would leave a car with the W30 parts out for anyone to take. If I were a cop I would be real be real suspicious of where the original parts are! If they ever exsisted! Looks like they were removed 20 years ago! I am sure you have pictures and documentation of all parts and numbers if you decided to leave car out in the open correct! WOW I have my 68 H/O project locked away in storage with correct heads etc stashed away in another building! You have to realize by now that you cant trust no one! I do not see how he would file an Insurance claim when adjuster sees where car is sitting, They would be nuts to insure that!

After seeing the video,I have a few questions.

How long ago were the parts removed?
Did they take the red fender wells also?
Were the parts or car covered by insurance?

When you have a weathered faded paint car you are not likely to get much in the way of fingerprints from the surface. The thief likely was wearing gloves anyway.

And there's no telling how long ago they were stolen, it obvious Jay doesnt look under the hood every single day.
