Buzzing Voltage Regulator Driving Me Crazy!!!
69' Cutlass S
Changed Battery, Alternator, Belts, Starter- more so due to heat sink,
and probably should have started at Voltage Reg due to dead battery.
My performance shop moved out of area, sooo took to usual mechanic.
Poor guy probably never saw external regulator before.
first new reg buzzing so took back, even though established good ground
thought defective 12 v
new one buzzes until driving rpm reached and then some times
at idle at light
made nice grounds but still acting up
any suggestions would be much appreciated!!!
Thank You

That is usually caused by a bad ground. Are you sure about the grounds? Ground wire from firewall to regulator, engine to body ground straps, (negative cable doesn't count), core support to negative on battery? All the wires good to the regulator and none broken or have intermittent connections? Or it could be something I've never heard of.
Just my two cents woof,
Allan

Allan has a point, if your engine isn't grounded well to the body and it could cause problems since the regulator gets ground indirectly through the body, to the battery. A quick way to isolate that is to get a long enough piece of wire with stripped ends and touch one to the negative terminal on the battery and the other to the mounting stud on the regulator, make sure both are clean. If you do this when the regulator is buzzing and it stops you know it is the ground problem. Then, just find it and fix it.

Thank you very much for you support,
cannot find any wires going to rad core support at all
going to install line
any suggestions on gage?
thats just a straight line from neg battery post to some good clean steel
on core support?
mechanics put ground from last bolt on valve cover to a
supporting bolt for Regulator to firewall
but now that I look it seems i cannot even find wires that might
connect a good ground to the chassis at all
spent alot of time and money this year and would just like to enjoy a little
before the snow
Thanks again for the great advice!!
