Converting to a internal regulated alternator

Hi everyone,

I would like to clean-up my firewall and remove the external regulator and go with an internal regulated altinator.

I have search some older threads and have read up about it, but I was wondering if someone could walk me threw the wireing so I know for sure how to hook it up. I have heard its easy to do but I would like to confirm it first.

A scimatic or drawing would be nice, but if you could tell me which wire goes where that's cool too.

Oh by the way I have a 71 442 with A/C.

Thanks guys,
Dave

I think I'm just going to use a standard internal altinator. I don't think a one wire.

A 1971 442 should have come from the factory with an internally regulated alternator. In any case, here's the conversion wiring diagram.

For some reason then I have an external voltage regulator. If it doesn't make sense, then it makes sense its on my car lol.

Anyhow, thanks Joe this is perfect! Thank you ah64pilot as well. You guys are awesome.

You are correct, every 1972 Cutlass/442 came with an external regulator. Now go back and read the original post:

All 1969-1971 442s came with an internal regulator alternator. For the oddball 1972 model year, the internal regulator was dropped.
