starter wiring clarification please?
Hi guys, trying to button up some last details on my engine rebuild. Running a 1974 Olds Delta 88 Royale, with a 455.
I've read many threads trying to confirm what I've done but I still want to double check!
I have 4 cables total, running to my starter-
1, Battery cable to largest stud on starter solenoid
2, Ignition coil 'yellow' wire to 'R' on starter solenoid
3, Neutral start switch 'purple' wire to 'S' on starter solenoid
4, 'Red' wire, from the horn relay i think, to the same large stud as the battery cable on starter solenoid. Is this correct?
Also, what is the stud on the actual starter motor housing? Ground?
One more thing, my braided ground wire from my block to the firewall, is that connected to a stud on the firewall?
Many thanks, this site has helped me tons!
Mike

The stud on the back of the starter case is for a bracket that supported the rear of the starter. Not all cars came with it but that's it's purpose. I'm finicky about ground wires because grounds are the biggest cause of electrical issues. I would ground your car several ways. Engine to body, engine to frame, frame to body. That way your bases are covered.

Ok, thanks, good to know what that stud on the starter housing is for. And I'll be sure to add a couple additional ground wires.
So the fourth 'red' wire does go to the same stud as the battery cable?
