I have a 1989 Cadillac radio I need to test and the connectors are different than the early-mid 80's which I know by heart... I think the Caddies were wired differently.
Picture below shows the connectors I need to ID.

Speaker wire plugs seem to stand out (colors) but the rest are questionable.
If this radio works, i want to integrate into my '86.

Either a picture or description works.

If I'm reading your photo correctly, you have a bank of four wires at the top with the white connector, a bank of six wires below that with a black connector, and a bank of four more wires to the left of the six-wire block with a blue connector (hard to see in the photo).

Starting at the top of the white connector:

1. Left front speaker (-)
2. Left front speaker (+)
3. Right front speaker (-)
4. Right front speaker (+)


For the black connector, starting at the top:

1. Ground
2. Not used
3. Headlight dimmer wire
4. Power antenna turn-on
5. +12 V ignition
6. +12 V battery


For the blue connector, starting at the top:

1. Right rear speaker (-)
2. Right rear speaker (+)
3. Left rear speaker (-)
4. Left rear speaker (+)



I'd, of course, verify these carefully. I have a radio from a late '90s Saturn, and these are the pin-outs. I know this because I purchased a "reverse wire harness" for it so that I could plug into the connector coming from the radio, rather than having to cut the connector off to get at the wires. With the reverse harness came a pin-out diagram.

I did a search at the same website for a 1989 Cadillac, and the same reverse harness popped up. Says it's the same for all GM 1989 and up. ( I'm not sure "up" goes all the way to 2011, but you only need 1989.)

Like I say, I would certainly check carefully when applying power and so forth, but it's a place to start.

Jaunty - thanks a lot for that website - had a PDF of the wiring. Colors seemed to make sense.
A couple of the "not used" wires are used, but for display dimming.
I will hook it up tomorrow and see what happens.
With as many people online are looking for wiring diags, i did not think good free downloads existed...

Glad to help. I, too, am impressed that a site with free wiring diagrams like that exists. But they're in the business of selling car audio and accessories. Makes sense that they'd want to be as consumer-friendly as possible.

Well, Just could not wait 'til tomorrow to try it...

Diagrams were right on as expected, and this $15 junkyard radio worked, all the way down to the tape deck!
Looks like I got my $$ worth.
Need to do some extra tests and maintanence and then figure out how to integrate it into my '86 without any wire cutting.



Well, looks like the upper right bulb is out...


I might change the faceplates and ***** / button so the styles match the ones in the car already. Yes, a nit-picky thing.

John, the freebee unit I got from you originally came from a 1987-1988ish vehicle. It was sold from a boneyard on April '92. After the, who knows what it was installed in.
The tape player needs a belt and the power stage is blown.
It has a good FM tuner and processor section (that I need) but of course that board is incompatible with the bad unit in my car...
I can get belts for it and I have a junk unit that I think i can get an amp board from.
From the 6 units I have laying around, i hope to get at least three to work.
