442 No Start
442 No Start
Went out Yesterday to Start Car and in return the problem I ran into : The car is a 1970 Olds 442, 455 Engine with A/C and really a stock car. Car has been cranked monthly and drove 2 weeks ago 20/30 miles. Problem: Got in car with Battery fully charged - Turned Key and had Gen light and started car - Ran for about 10 seconds and died - Restarted car and ran for about 5 second - At this point Lost Gen light with Key on and no cranking in crank mode. Waiting for my son to come in to start troubleshooting car as I was diagnosed with cancer a few months back and will try to help him as much as I Can. Was hoping to get some starting Troubleshooting guides from you Oldsmobile guys if your time permits - Thanks
Cleaned Cables and post on Battery - Did notice on Negative side wire was not that tight when removing. Retighten wires and Had Gen Light and Car did Crank and run. Thank You both on your responses and forgive me on pulling the trigger to quick on thinking of disaster
After 53 years of untold number of times the battery cable end terminals have been loosened and tightened again & again, & again....consider changing the end terminals if you believe it will help. Glad you're up & running.
Once again I'll point out that simply measuring voltage, especially with a low-impedance volt meter, will not identify connections that will fail when required to carry the high current of the starter motor.
