'74-'76 Electronic Lamp Monitor Option
'74-'76 Electronic Lamp Monitor Option
So I was reading through parts of my FSM last night when a particular portion of about the ELM option that was available on mid-70s 88, 98 and Tornados caught my attention...
Apparently, the system consists of two plug-in PCB cards (one for the front lights and one for the rear) that monitor the voltage on the wire runs to each bulb. If a bulb burns out, the circuit breaks, there is no longer voltage on a particular line and the "External Lamp" light comes on in the dash.
Now I haven't seen photos of the physical hardware from the system, installed or otherwise, but the description alongside the provided wiring diagram imply that, outside of the two plug-in cards and the bulb in the dash, there isn't any other bits or pieces that make up this option. No extra wiring, no special bulb-sockets, just two boards monitoring voltage on each bulb's circuit.
This makes me wonder, if one could track down both boards, installs them in their respective slots and instslls the bulb in the dash, would that make a functioning ELM? It can't be that simple, can it?
