Thin black wire from the battery > the starter solenoid

Hi!
My car is an Oldsmobile Toronado 1984 (307cui engine, TH325-4L transmission, air conditioning) and I have lately been in the process of cleaning up it a bit and replacing some parts. I had to replace some wiring too and to be able to do this correctly I got the factory Oldsmobile electrical troubleshooting manual. According to the book there should be a black wire from the battery positive to the starter solenoid.
In my car this wire was not there at all. But (according to the book) it should be there and I want to put it there. My question is about the wire and the gauge: why should this wire be there? According to the wiring diagram the wire is black 32 gauge. Is this a printing error or should the wire really be only 32 gauge?
This is my first posting here. I try to attach a picture of the wiring diagram, too. Sorry for my bad English. Thanks for everyone here! I think this this a great forum.

That is not a thin black wire, it is a black battery cable. I don't know what the numbers represent but obviously its not wire gauge.

My suggestion---wire size in "mm'. My '81 electrical book, page vii states wire size is square mm.

32mm is 1.25" diameter, so I think not.

Now, if you just turn to the key at the front of the wiring diagrams in that manual...

Hi again,

and thank you all for your answers. The puzzle has been solved. I (in Europe Finland) took for granted that all those wire gauge numbers in this american car manual were AWG. This is an example of how one can get stuck in his own (wrong) ideas and how difficult it is to shake them off of one´s head. And to Joe: I have been following this forum about six months now and have to say that you remind me of an old Indian chief: when you speak, everybody listens!

I think this is it. The web site below shows conversions from sq mm to wire gauge. I typed in 32 sq mm and it returned 2 gauge wire.

OK, that makes a lot more sense, thanks.
