I just joined and This I s my first post...I’m attempting to replace my turn
signal switch on my 67 Olds 442. I have got as far as removing the wheel and the old switch but now I’m stuck! My question is how do I get the steering column over off?
in the picture there is kind of a plate on the column shaft that seems to rotate a little but I can’t figure out whether it un-screws? Or just pulls off?
then and need to figure out how to get the new wiring harness run down inside the column cover? Or could I cut and splice?
why do you want to take the column off if you are replacing the turn signal switch ? on a 71, the turn signal harness runs done inside the column in a sleeve and you unplug it at the bottom of the column. Perhaps the same with yours ?
Hey thanks for getting back to me. I don’t want to remove the column, just the cover. There is no way I can pull the wiring thru as it is, even if I disconnect the Connector under the dash
is there a c ring or snap ring that is holding that plate on ?.
I have done all of this on a 71, so don't want to misguide you, but is probably similar.
Do you have a chassis manual for your car ?.
That and the assembly manual were the best investments I made and extremely helpful.
i got it..,nit the easiest thing to do but I have a function turn signal switch and I got the wiring harness down the column by loosening the lower mounting bracket.,,,

Ding ding ding! You win! And did you use string or wire to pull the new one back down through the column?
