Guys trying to get some electrical gremlins fixed. The parking lights and rear license plate bulb housings have spring loaded contacts and they are sticking pushed in with no tension and when you put the bulb in there's not contact. I know I have power. Two things I have tried thus far, I pulled the spring tension contacts out and sprayed them with Deoxit.( 3rd time around trying ) I even put a tiny drop of solder on the contacts on the bulbs, lengthening the contact points just bit, that did not work. I do not think there are replacements for these. Thanks, for any craftily ideas.

 

I use penetrating oil to get everything moving. Sometimes the stiff wiring needs to be straightened right behind the socket so it can move back and forth.

After the juice works for a while, you can often grab the wire that comes out of the back of the socket and tug on it a bit to free up the spring action.

ive used wd40 to get the socket spring contact assy working well again.

 

Ahh pulling the wires from behind along with the PB blaster worked, spring tension is back! Weird: the 1157 bulbs plug into the socket fine, but I converted over to LED's and the cheap LED bulbs I bought will not turn when putting into socket.Those tiny little side pins on the bulb must be off a just hair. I'm contributing that too the cheap LED's I bought, like a bag of them for $10.00. Going to look around for some more. Thanks everyone for your help.

 

Did you try turning them 180 degrees and plug them back in?

 

Yep until my fingers were numb. I bought some Sylvania LEDS. When they come in I will lets you know. The ones I bought were real cheap, these were 2 for 20.00.

 

The new LED's came and they fit right in the socket. Very bright!t about finished all the wiring under the dash. have to run the wires from the front speaker the Kenwood in the gloves box. The AMP mounted in the trunk is all wired and ran the cables to the Kenwood. I have to read up on how to break in the rear speakers, there's actually a method to the madness! When everything I need to do under the dash is over with, then I will weld the seat braces in.

 

So with the LED's you just install them and change the signal stats?

 

I put in a LED flasher too.

 

Yes I installed a LED flasher and all is good, turn signals and all.

 

Eric still having issues with the license plate light. Test light shows power to it. Bulb goes in with no issues and does not light. I believe these ground to themselves to the frame or socket if you will. Only one wire to the socket.

 

Do you have voltage to the spring contact in the socket? The assy grounds to what its bolted to, assuming its the bumper. Make sure you have a good ground to the socket.
