Hi All!

New member Here! I recently purchased a '65 Delta and the radio didnt function so i am trying to get it to work properly. does anyone happen to have a wiring diagram for the radio itself. i was also wondering if anyone knew off hand which of the connectors on the back side of the radio go to the speaker leads? The radio is just the basic am version. Thanks!

 

Welcome to the site. On your radio, it would help to know which one you have? How many speakers are installed in the car?

 

Yes, The Model Is 7289313 Serial # 30-96452, it has only the one speaker in the dash with no fader

 

On the back of the radio there should be a small plug. its a combination power and speaker plug. The other connection is the antenna. normally its the speaker that disintegrates over time.

 

Thanks! Although after i hooked it up in that configureation to a known working speaker I still got nothing. not even a pop when turning it on, however i know that the set is getting power as I was unsing a voltmeter a round a few of the internals and there was power through out in varying amounts. i didnt have an antenna connected but i was still expecting to get some static through the speaker. Would you happen to have a diagram for the internals?

 

You will not get any stations without an antenna, you can put the end of a coat hanger in the hole of the antenna plug. Do not ground the coat hanger.

 

Ok I Went ahead and tried that but still no noise what so ever, perhaps something in the output circuit has gone out? i put a voltmeter on the end of the coil transformer and is had absolutely nothing coming out of it. i put it on the lead that attached to the large silver capacitor

 

It may be that the power transistor is shot.

 

X2. This is very common in these radios. It's the TO3 transistor bolted to the outside of the case. I've replaced them on several radios and that fixed the problem. If you really want the internal schematics, you need one of these Delco radio service manuals, available on ebay.

 

Either the above Delco Radio service book, or if you have the model number, a Sam's PhotoFact is also very good.


In all honesty I wouldn't put a lot of time or money in an AM set unless you have some strong listenable AM stations in the area. Look for a 1965-66 Olds AM-FM set. You may have to run wire for a rear speaker since all AM-FM sets I've seen had the rear speaker fader, or you can simply jumper the fader out.

 

Is There a way i can test the power transistor to see if it still works? i tested both prongs and both are putting out 8.5 volts
