Wiper Motor Open Resistor Fix?

Thanks to Joe P's wiper system pdf he posted a few years back, I've determined the 20-ohm high speed resistor is open.

Is there a way to solder a new resistor in? One end of the resistor connects to the high-speed terminal (I think this is the A terminal) and then spans across and appears to connect to the C terminal. Is it that simple?

Or is there a replacement terminal block available?

Did anybody ever make a sticky to a crystal ball so when these kinds of posts appear I can go there and figure out what the post is all about?

Yes, it is that simple to solder in a new resistor. The problem today is buying one resistor. This is the one thing I miss about Radio Shack. I don't need a package of ten resistors from DigiKey or Mouser.

If this is for a round motor, here is a snap of the one on mine. I can't say I've ever seen a resistor like it before. One end (the long bare wire) isn't even soldered, rather it's just sandwiched against the body of the motor.

That's a wire wound resistor. The wire corrodes and breaks, which is how it gets to be open. Keep in mind that these parts are designed for lowest cost assembly under mass production conditions.

Having to buy a pack of resistors doesn't bother me too much. What wattage rating should I look for? The ckt is on a 25A fuse, so does that mean (25A x 12V = 300W) a 300W fuse is needed. Seems excessively high.

Just got an email from Classic Wipers out of SC. They recommended a 5W resistor, so that's my plan. Thanks for the information.
