I have a new windshield wiper/washer I put on my 75 Hurst about a year ago. I had the car out cleaning it up Friday and when I went to put it back in the garage, the dang windshield washers came on and would not stop. They weren't even turned on and the wipers were not running. I know it is not the switch because I disconnected it and they still run. The only way to stop the washers is to unplug them. This is one of the newer washers and not the old pulse type that came on the car. Has anybody else had this problem and what is the fix? Thanks guys.
Thanks Eric. I understand that. I am hoping somebody gives me a logical spot to find that ground before I go taking wiring harnesses apart. That will probably not happen since the washers are rarely used.
Thanks Dan. I don't think it is the washer since it will quit when I unplug it. I am going to get the shop manual out and look at the schematic. The wiper/washer motor is only about a year old. Of course we all know that doesn't mean anything.
It should be the (I believe) blue wire and it runs directly from the wiper switch. The yellow has 12v at all times when the key is on.
My thought was that the unit might be providing a ground to activate the motor when it should not be doing that. Might it be possible to un-mount it from chassis ground (firewall) and try to see it it still mis-behaves? Just throwing darts blindly but...
Good thought Dan. It has some other goofy electrical gremlins. It has a dome light on each side and neither of them were working. The courtesy lights under the dash work. I played with the right side end could not get it to work. I went out in the garage last night and the dang thing was on (right side only). The doors were closed so I go the headlight switch to see if it is turned all the way to the left. I turn it all the way and the courtesy lights under the dash come on and the dome light goes off. Turn it back to the right slightly and the courtesy lights go off and the done light comes back on. So I took the bulb out so it isn't a drain on the battery. Will get the shop manual out and look at the schematic.
