Why is my fuel gauge reading this way?

Because the connection between the gauge and the sender has been broken.

If you search the forum, you will find that this question has been answered a number of times before.
A quick glance shows information here, here, and here.
You need to check to be sure that the sender wire is connected to the back of the gauge, then check to be sure the wire's not broken as it passes from the back to the front, then check that it is connected to the sender, and that the sender is properly grounded.

I apologize for asking a repeat question (Im a newbie) and havent quite figured out how to use this site to my advantage. I really appreciate the info and i think you have solved my problem. Again your help is greatly appreciated.
