What Are These?
I would like to know what the objects in the photos below are or are for. My car is a '67 Delta 88, 2-bbl 425. Many thanks to anyone who can help.
Photo 1 of the ignition coil (I believe). What is this thing on top of it (circled in yellow)? It's rusty, and it's not attached to anything as the wire coming off of it is just dangling there as you can see in the photo.

Photo 2 is the junction block area. This is where the positive lead from the battery terminates, and there are about 5 other wires that meet at that same point. In the photo is a black object in one of the wires meeting at that point. I'm concerned about it because the black wiring coming out of it that connects to the junction block is a bit dicey with some broken insulation. (The red wire coming out of the other end looks OK and disappears immediately into the wiring harness). Is this a fusible link? I hear a lot about them when electrical issues come up, but I don't know what one looks like or where to find them. It looks like it has had a connector crimped on at one end so that it can attach to the junction block bolt, and that's what makes me think it's a fusible link as it looks like it might have been replaced at one point.

Photo 3 is of some bracket-looking thing that hangs off the wiring harness along the firewall. I think it might have something to do with the underhood light as that is there but the wire coming out of it is just dangling with its half of the connector on it. But I can't see anywhere under the hood to connect this to. I think this might attach to the hood also, but where, and where does the lead from the underhood light attach to it?

The top photo is a radio ignition noise suppression capacitor. It connects to (-) terminal on coil and helps eliminate radio static and popping caused by the ignition system. That one looks pretty rough though. If you're not getting any buzzing thru your radio, you can probably do without it.
Second pic shows the main harness fusible link. Looks like the original one to me. It's one of those things you can replace if it's bothering you, but it's probably functioning OK. Something to consider is that the post those wires attach to is hot at all times and if something shorts against it, you'll have quite a light show. Fusick and others sell the rubber "hat" that covers and insulates it.
The last is, as you've guessed, a mounting bracket for the underhood lamp wire. Most I've seen attach to one of the screws holding the underhood lamp to the hood underside.
Let me do a little digging in the 67 CSM and I'll try to figure out what's going on with your lights. The common element is that everything you mentioned feeds off the constant 12V buss in the fuse block- which incidentally is fed thru that fusible link in the picture.

The radio doesn't work and is out of the car while I'm figuring out what to do about it, so I wouldn't have had a chance to notice any static problems. I think I'll just take that off.
Thanks for the info on the fusible link. I'm guessing that if there were a problem with it, I would notice it in other ways, such as electrical things not working. Thanks for the tip on covering the junction bolt. I hadn't thought of the potential problem.
I thought that was the light bracket. I'll see if I can figure out how it attaches. What I really need is to see under the hood of a '67 Delta 88 with everything the way it should be and take lots of pictures. I'm planning to attend the Olds Club of Canada's meet in London, Ontario next weekend. Maybe I'll be lucky and will come across a '67.
