What year car, and is this a new direct replacement switch or a consolidated part # switch that fits multiple cars and years?

Offhand I'm gonna say they're for cornering lamps but IIRC those wires are usually gray.

Hope you're just testing there and that you'll use proper butt splices and shrink tubing on the final product.

1970 olds cutlass, im putting in a after market harness, the wires coming down the steering colum are original, im just trying to plice into it without having to rewire the whole colum, the harness i bought is gm color coded ill justnleave em hangin untill i get my asembly manual. Thanks anyways. And yes im just lightly hooking things up, getting them routed.

The 1970 and '72 Chassis Service Manuals say those two wires don't exist, and I've never seen them before.

Does your car have any unusual options?

My 72 schematic says those two are for the LH (yellow) and RH (green) REAR turn signal bulbs.
Does this generic harness have provision for the four-way flasher? The 70 may not even have it.
Here is a reason why generics make this little piggie go WEE, WEE, WEE, WEE, all the way to the insane assylum...

Rob, are you sure?

Those rear wires should be green and yellow, which are the 2nd and 3rd from the right in the photo.

The two he's talking about are pale green and brown.

It shouldn't - not from up there.

NSS is on top of the column, down by the firewall - the wires would go in the other direction.

what do u mean? these wires run down the steering coloum its looks like. right to the nss. i know thhat the ignition and starter get hooked up to to it, normaly 2 purple wires. and then 2 green wires, which i dont seem to have, so maybe this is them? nss has to get hooked up there so it knows when its in gear no?

No, it looks like the wires run UP the steering column, AWAY from the NSS, which is located on the top of the lower end.

The NSS wires drop down from the main harness, near where the ignition switch wire come out. They don't run with the signal light switch wires.

The wiring diagram shows a black and a pink/ black with the green one replacing the black one and the light brown replacing the pink/black one probably done to keep from confusing when rewiring since there is another black wire on the connector . The black appears would go to the left front door jamb switch and the light brown would go to the key buzzer on the horn relay under the hood.

This is what my instructions say, tell me what you think if u can please.

Note.when using gm keyed type column install ignition switch wires as fallows,
Neutral connector - red - (large wire) battery do they mean the actualy batt.?
Purple - starter energize
Pink - ignition
Brown - accessory
Red - (small wire) battery agin, do they mean run this to the actual battery?
Orange accessory

Neutral saftey - for manual trans and mecanical neutral saftey type column do not cutt purple looped wire, theres only one its just looped and looks like theres three of them
- for neutral saftey switch type system cut looped purple wire and connect to nss.

these are the wires off the after market harness, the purple wire is the one thats looped, dont know why.

They look green and yellow on my screen, which could be inaccurate.
I see the brown already. Since i only have a 72 diagram, I give up at this point...

I find this nearly incomprehensible.

If I had to guess, though, I would say that it is telling you to connect these wires to the proper ignition switch terminals. The colors are the same, so all you need to do is to connect each wire to the terminal that the old wire that was the same color came off of.

The purple wire goes to the starter solenoid "S" terminal. You break it and connect the ends to the two terminals of the neutral safety switch, just like the old wire was connected.

I guess I'm not completely sure what your question was.

The purple wire is looped cuz if you have a manual trans you don't cut the wire for the NSS...unless you want to depress the clutch to energize the starter...

When I redid my harness with a generic aftermarket, there were wires left over for the key buzzer.

The instructions are crap at best, but i got it all figured out tho. A assembly manual HELPED alot.
