Sits on firewall next to voltage regulator lots of hot wires are attached to it...iam thinking some sort of fuse?? Cant find it on the schematics....just put the battery in and was checking wires thanks for any help in advance...st.morgan
Ok now I see it cheif... so it is called junction block horn relay I would of never thought of horn relay...thx again...
It isn't of itself a horn relay. The horn relay "resides" on the junction block itself. It is often referred to as a horn relay. It is NOT a horn relay - it is a junction block with a horn relay residing on the junction block.
I did some background reading on your other threads, nothing in detail. It appears you swapped the original 350 cid for a 455 cid. That's fine. I want to mention this since you're unaware of the distribution/junction block & you're establishing your wiring. DO NOT compromise the integrity of the wiring by missing the importance of the FUSIBLE LINK demonstrated in the 1972 wiring diagram. The FUSIBLE LINK is a short, low-voltage wire. Its purpose is to act as a fuse in the vehicle's wiring harness. It provides circuit protection in the wiring. Should a short circuit or voltage spike occur in the electrical system, the FUSIBLE LINK will burn first to protect the wiring system. I can't visualize the FUSIBLE LINK in your image above. NOTE: The end of the 10 GA red wire should be black (OEM wiring) for ~6" or thereabouts before it attaches to the distribution/junction block. The insulation and wire itself is designed as a FUSIBLE LINK - it's integrity differs from that of ordinary automotive wiring. See if you have the OEM FUSIBLE LINK contained in your current wiring. If not, ensure you have a FUSIBLE LINK. You can purchase ready-made fusible links from the majority of automotive supply stores and/or electrical stores. If you are unsure, ask.
Hopefully you own the 1972 CSM which contains the OEM color wiring diagram. If not, I'll post a link (URL) to the wiring diagram (below) & I'll include an image. Good Luck.
Hi cheif....thanks for the info I do have the wiring diagram...and once you told me what it was I didnt realize the horn relay was a junction block ..but I did notice some fusible links in the wiring...well the good news is wired up the dual point coil and battery and timed it THE SUMBITCH FIRED ON THE FIRST KEY!!!!!almost ten years since the motor was built....st.morgan
