Underhood light wired to...?

I just restored the underhood light on my '68 Cutlass S. The wire was missing completely, so I don't know how long it was, or where it ran to. Can someone please tell me the location where it hooked up and to what color wire? Was the wire routed along the washer fluid hoses?
Thanks in advance.

It should have been a brown wire that ran right to the bulk head connector/fuse block. I'm not real familiar with '68s so I can't say for sure.

The wire from the underhood lamp should be black. There should be a metal piece that screws into the hood with one of the two screws for the underhood lamp that the connector at the end of the black wire attaches on to. Then there should be a brown wire that connects to the black wire and routes through a rubber grommet on the driver side and into the underdash area. That brown wire should connect into another connector that is connected into the fuse panel. The wire should be hot all the time so that the underhood lamp comes on when the hood is raised, whether or not the lights are on or if the engine is running.

Thank you! I'll have to do some digging!!!
Yes the attachment piece is still in place for the clip, freshly plated.

Since yours is not 100% original and the light is looking for a constant 12v, why not hook it up to the horn relay with an inline fuse.

Not a bad idea... I'm trying to clean up the engine bay and undo a lot of the "ugly" added by POs, as well as get everything working properly. I just replaced the horns with a good used pair since only one functioned, poorly. Assuming there was still a wiring laying around somewhere (under the dash?) to hook up to the light, I thought original wouldn't be a bad way to go. At least the next guy (if there is a next guy) wouldn't have to reinvent the wheel. I want the car to appear original, with a few upgrades so my wife can transition easily from her Charger into this on nice days.
