turn signal gremlin

67 442 new turn signal switch installed a couple years ago and all worked as should until recently.
Switch OFF, turn signal switch ANY POSITION, when battery is connected the LEFT FRONT flashes continuously. Switch ON all lights work as they should return switch to center and left front still blinks. To me this indicates a short from a full time power circuit such as courtesy lights. Remove courtesy fuse and blink does stop. Replace fuse and blinking resumes. Disconnect courtesy harness no change.
Test light at column harness shows various circuits flashing which I think are power, light, and dash indicator light. Unplug harness blinking stops, reconnect and it resumes.
I unplug front light harness blinking stops and there is still power on the blue wire terminal in bulkhead connecter so problem must be inside.
Now test light shows power only on orange wire which I believe is the hazard switch.
So I think problem is with the hazard circuit INSIDE the column. Before I tear into it I would appreciate any input to help me. Have I overlooked any other sources? Should I cut the hazard power and see if problem goes away?

My 65 J88 had aftermarket hazard installed by my father and it worked for years. I chased all kinds of electrical gremlins for months.

Cleaned all grounds, replaced bulbs, reversed wires at sockets, the works.

Finally I removed the hazard unit and all was well for a few years until I sold the car.

I would think the issue is in the column also. The hazard switch is powered all the time, some how your getting power to the blinker, possibly a crimped wire.

A friend and I have been reassembling his 66 Chevelle SS since getting it back from paint. His tail lights, blinkers, and horn were doing some odd things and after some trouble shooting we dug into his steering column and replaced the turn signal switch. Everything is working great now.

I know what you mean...turn sig switches are like magic. I did replace mine during the resto so I probably ended up with a wire that's rubbed thru. At least when I removed the constant power to the hazards everything returned to normal and I can live without them for a while. Thnx
