I need to change the turn signal cancelator in my 68 442.
I have the part but this looks like it's going to be a pain in the a$$.
Has anyone done this and if so any tips would be appreciated. Doe anyone know where I can find directions?

Naah. It's not hard.


Tip: It is FAR easier if you use a lock-plate puller ($15-$20 at your local parts store) than if you use two pointy screwdrivers, both hands, and both feet, like I usually do.

I looked in the chassis manual and didn't find anything but I'll take a second look.

Ow, you made me remember back in the 80s sitting in the drivers seat, with my feet on the steering column, trying to get that lock plate off. Bad memory - I'm prolly gonna have nightmares for the next week!

 

Okay, I was wrong.

I just looked through the '68 CSM, and there is no specific information about changing the cancel springs (presumably because GM didn't sell them separately, and expected you to change the entire switch).

Essentially, remove steering wheel, remove anything you see between steering wheel and switch, when you can get the the switch you will see the two springs, remove them and replace, then reassemble.

Sorry I don't have anything more specific.
