tick toc tach rebuild help or replacement
My 68 cutlass was equipped with a tick toc tach and 6 cylinder engine when I bought it. I've converted the car to a 455 and because of that I believe the tach is off. The tach also gets stuck for a while up around 3500 or 4000 sometimes. So my questions for the board are:
1. Were tach's for 6 cylinder cars different or even available? If they were available, can they be switched over to v8 applicatons? I don't know if the tach came as original equipment.
2. Does anyone recommend a rebuilder that I can send the tach to for a rebuild/calibration and quarts clock movement?
3. Are there any aftermarket tach's (tach only) that has similar appearance to the original gages that I can mount in the original location? Preferably with a shift indicator LED or something similar? It is tough to watch the road and tach at the same time.
Thanks.

I believe you can calibrate the tic toc tach for either the 6 or V8. I've seen this rebuilder on the web before. Don't know much about him though. Here's the link
http://www.tachman.com/gmpolds.htm Scroll to bottom of page for Olds. You can contact him and ask questions about pricing and quality?
re: aftermarket tachs? Yes, the 68/69 rallye pac is reproduced. Available at most of the Olds resto suppliers. Just doing a simple comparison of their prices, Parts Place seems to have the lowest price. (429.00 - part number IN3458T)

I used a clock conversion kit from The Clock Doc, this was over 20 years ago so who knows if the are still around. I think there is a switch or jumper wire you need to change inside the clock/tach for 6 or 8 cylinder engines. The factory tachs weren't very accurate when new, I'm sure after 45 years they have gotten worse.

I used D&M Restoration for both of my tic-toc-tac assemblies and find them to be superior. Their address is 57-B Creekside Park Court, Greenville, SC 29615, phone 800-722-0854 or 864-254-9989. Their web site is www.DandMrestoration.com. They can do whatever you want for your clock and tach. I chose to keep my clocks original as the two 4-4-2s are mostly original (except for paint, body work, interior, you know, all the stuff that has to be replaced anyway!). Those guys (and gals) are good!
