Can the light sockets for the 1157 bulbs be replaced on a 70 cutlass or do I need to replace the whole housing? If they can replaced how is it done? It looks like they are very difficult to remove without damaging the whole housing.

 

The sockets are swaged into the housings and not designed to be replaced. It can be done, but it is not easy.
