Tail Light Sockets / 1972 Cutlass

I need to replace the dual-contact tail light sockets on a '72 Cutlass.

Because of where they are, they need to be waterproof and I can't find any
basic 1157 bulb-accepting sockets like that, which fit in the 3/4" holes. At least, not at a reasonable price.

Anyone have a resource?

Thanks!

Take a picture and post it.

I know the Help section at Autozone and several other places carry new GM sockets for classics.
If you can just verify the Dorman replacement # you can special order them if not in store.
If not, there's Rock Auto once you have the part #.

Is this it ?? > If not it, do a search for "Sockets" after you punch in 72 Olds Cutlass.

They don't necessarily have to be dorman! Basically any respectable autoparts store has those sockets with pigtails in the electrical section!

Unfortunately, these solutions aren't waterproof. With the tail light housings directly in the spray path of the rear tires, the OEM variety are and the replacements would have to be as well.

If those sockets would work, I'd think a bit of rtv or something similiar would seal them up nicely.

Go to any Arts and Crafts store and buy some 11x8" sheets of black foam that's 1/16" thick or so for $1.

Cut rings......problem solved. This is how I sealed my LED rear tail lights I custom made for my 2nd gen Camaro.
Believe it or not, my wife found this for me. I don't know sh** about arts and crafts but she does.

For what it's worth...

The third one down (Airtex/Wells 6S1009) has a rubber push-in on the back.

A little RTV around the edges and the wire holes and they might do the trick. I ordered a set and will do a follow up after a little rain driving.

They are not the same, I went through several GM A body sockets to see if I could get them to work, no luck. The parts store chinesium are hit and miss. The original are swedged to the tail light bucket, no one makes 'em.

UPDATE:

The Airtex/Wells 6S1009 from RockAuto don't fit. They are 1" so you'd have to open the 3/4" hole up to make them work.

However, if you're willing to pony up, Ron Francis looks like they might have a solution.

http://www.ronfrancis.com/prodinfo.asp?number=TR%2D33

They're not cheap but they're 3/4" and waterproof. They're designed for fender-mounted bug-eye hot-rod taillights. We'll see...
