My radio in my 72 cutlass was working when I got the car but now it has some problem. You can hear the radio but the volume is really low even when its on full volume.

 

Sounds like the amplifier circuitry is bad. You will need to have it repaired.

Cost of repair is about the same as putting in a newer unit.

 

If you are looking to get your original radio repaired, I suggest using Barry Dalton (advertises regularly in JWO). He's done 3 radios for me ('68 Olds AM-FM with rear speaker, '69 Olds AM-FM Wonderbar with rear speaker, and '70 Pontiac AM-FM front speaker only) and his work has been top notch on all three radios. I've visited his shop a couple of times and he's got some pretty neat radios in there for sale as well! My brother lives in Northern California so it was convenient for me just to take my radios to his shop rather than mail them. Once finished, Barry mailed the radios back to my home. Cost on mine was $175 for each radio, plus shipping - that's about the basic charge as there wasn't much anything seriously wrong with any of the radios. Good guy.
