Power to Trunk Lid ??

72 Olds Convertible. It has a remote trunk lid release button in the glove compartment which is wired. It has a working solenoid in the trunk lid which I've put 12 volts through and it functions as it should.
There are no wires coming into the trunk lid for either the solenoid or the trunk light which also worked when I hit it with 12 volts.
Any idea where I might find the wiring harness for each of these items? I've got no idea why someone would disconnect things that work
Same for the light under the hood. All brand new but not working. The remote hood locking mechanism wasn't working either but I got it sorted tonight. Down-side to buying a show car. As long as it looks good it don't matter if it works.
Any assistance with the whereabouts of the electrics will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,.... Col.

The light wire should be up near the left trunk hinge, orange in color with a black connector. I think this was part of the main harness.... This wire never entered the lid itself.
The lock wire would have been a separate wire coming from the right side (I think) under the floorpans and into the trunk at the bottom back seat area. I think if you look around, they will be there, just hidden.
Do you

Thanks Rob. I'll have a poke about on the weekend when I can get at it in daylight.

Spent time in my trunk today
And found both wires tucked away
Now have a trunk light, nice to see
And the trunk lid pops without a key.

Thanks Rob. Still can't believe that when they restoed the trunk on this car that they didn't reconnect the light and latch release. In fact they went out of their way to hide the latch release wire then run it along with the tail-light wiring.
So far I've fixed those two things plus the remote hood lock and the glove compartment ****. About 2 hours all up and not a cent spent. I just don't get why the previous owner didn't do it (an why he told me everything was working on the car ). Next I'm gonna get the radio fitted in tight. It rattles...... and I hate rattles.

Check for a rear support on the radio. Most people omit them and the radio weight twists the dash plastic, causing squeaks over bumps.
I had this exact issue.

That's what I figure. There's too much movement and it's not sitting forward enough so the the tuning dials don't even engage properly.
Gonna be a big job though as there's an 8-Track and air con ducts to move before I can even see up under the dash. Unless I can somehow come down through the hole for ash tray ??

Nope. You have to do this from down under. Shouldn't be any sweat for a bloke whos already there!

Seriously though, you may be able to tighten the radio brace (it's also held to the upper dash pad by a white static strap) just by lowering the 8 track. The 8 track only has 2 mounting nuts securing it in place. That should give you enough room to go up into the radio area - i hope. My car doesn't have AC and there's tons of room there so I can't imagine the venting for AC taking up that much space.

I made a metal bracket to bolt to the bottom of the dash through an existing hole, up to the bolt on the back of the radio. One of the POs had cut my white plastic strap...

White strap is still in place, but the rest of the job has been bodgied up. I had to get at it via the glove box. Didn't do much except curse at it and wiggle it around a bit and low and behold it's pretty quiet now.
While I was under there I got the glove box hinge tight, the light working, the passenger interior light working, the tacho working, a whole bunch of mouse crap vacuumed out and the air con ducting hooked up properly.
The only dodgy thing on the car now is the oil pressure guage and I'm figuring sender problems. Works sometimes but mostly not. Needs a new glove box liner. Once again out of sight out of mind for the previous owner. We're getting there. New windscreen brace arrives 11/5 so I'll be able to tidy up that whole windscreen area. PO only ever showed and drove the car with the top up so he didn't bother that the sunvisors were daggy & the brace rusted.

Mouse crap?? As good as your car looked, that would have been my last concern!
Must have been those ship rats, lol....
I have seen the oil senders get flakey. Sounds like it needs replaced.
What is this windshield brace you mention?

Driving only with the top up??? Why have a vert then? Wierd PO...

Yep Rob...very weird PO.
The windshield brace is the vinyl covered brace that goes from A-Pillar to A-Pillar, basically the top of the front windscreen frame. Mine has a 3/4" hole in it with rust evident. $159 from The Parts Place so no complaints (and I'm getting it shipped for nothing).
As you say, the car looks good, but the little things obviously didn't worry PO.
This is what's working now that wasn't a couple of weeks ago:
Tacho, Remote hood lock, remote trunk release, glove box light and ****, trunk light, passenger interior light, boot snap fasteners, broken sunvisor, g/box hinge, trans change up (held gear too long), loose rearview mirror and the top now goes all the way down. All that cost me $8.00 plus the trans service kit. Why would you let a "show car" be semi non-functional?
Anyway, it's a magnificent day here for a Monday public holiday and I've just been out for a top down 1/2 tank of gas cruise. Simply awesome car to cruise around in. Next item will be a concealed sound system that I can actually hear (original one is very quiet and I'm going deaf). Nothing like a good road and a little George Thorogood pounding away.
