No spark HEI

Here's my problem... I posted this question in the Omega thread, hopefully I'll get some more feedback here... My 350 run when I backed it into the garage. I changed plug wires and plugs, now I have no spark....I changed the ignition control module and rotor, and still no spark.....I put in a new coil and cap, still no spark...I pulled the distributor and bench-tested it to make sure the magnetic pick up was working, and everything checked out...The problem as I'm looking at it could be a wire that has broken off of somewhere... Enclosed is a picture of what I have going on...Red/orange wire is power to the batt side of cap...green wire is tach wire going to tach side of cap....3 wire harness going behind batt/tach terminals. There is a yellow wire that I have no clue as to where it goes!! Does it even go to the distributor somewhere?? .. I have power going to the batt terminal, with the key on, and also while cranking the engine... Man, I'm stumped!!!!! How many wires are supposed to go to the distributor??

A few things:

1. You've got a three-wire ribbon cable coming through a rectangular grommet in the distributor base. I believe that this make it a newer distributor than 1973.
Is this the original engine, and where do those wires go?

2. Are you SURE that you didn't pinch any wires when you screwed down the new module?
That would do it.

3. Did you try it with the tach wire disconnected?

4. Did you try it with the hot wire jumped directly from the battery?

You'll figure it out.

In looking at your pic, you've got the plug coming out of the distributor almost bent/squeezed in a 'U', which could be seperating an already broken 40+ year old wire!
The distributor can be 'clocked' clockwise to move those wires off the manifold. rather easily, avoiding the issue, too.
Move the spark plug wires 1 - 2 places counter-clockwise, adjust dist. to #1 - set timing - done!

There's quite a bit of slack there, and it appears all the wires are in ok shape.

IT LIVES!!!! I had a buddy of mine come over, and we got #1 on the compression stroke, blowing his finger off the #1 hole, and checking the timing marks on the balancer. We then checked the position of the rotor vs #1 on the cap and it was off, way off.. We pulled the #1 wire off the cap, moved it to the #8 position, #8 to #4, etc. We pumped the gas as it wasn't getting any go juice into the carb, and it popped! Played with the gas pedal, moved the distributor, and away she went. This is a very strong 350, with a big cam.. It sounds really healthy and I am one happy camper. Thanks to all for the advice, it was much appreciated. Rickman, you were right on target dude. I also have an HEI on my 69 Nova, and the same exact thing occurred there. As it was, it was fortunate as I have a corrected cap on the Nova, and #1 has to be in a different area. Thanks all again..

Absolutely right.. What p++++d me off was I took my time changing out plug wires and plugs. How the heck did anything happen like it did?? I found 2 wires that were crossed but that's all.
