No power at all

My red gen dummy light came on while driving. Popped the hood and and found the alternator cable loose tightened it and hear a pop and smoke came from near the firewall. Now I have no power to anything at all. All the fuses are good. Car is home now and the test light is coming on at the fuse panel. Car is a 1977 cutlass

Pop and smoke was probably a fusible link due to a positive wire shorted to ground at the alternator.

Agreed probably burnt out the fusible link at the junction block on the firewall.

Do you have the factory shop manual with the wiring diagrams? You need it. Or you can try searching the forums, there was a lengthy discussion on fusible links several weeks ago.
