Ok, my 72 cutlass gauges are not working. I have no speedometer no fuel, but I do get the red square in the instrument panel when i turn the key to acc. I have replaced all fuses. NO WIPERS EITHER.... Im heading to the garage now to pull out the cluster and test for power. Any suggestions would help. Thanks

 

Check for broken ground or bad ground.

 

Certainly the speedometer is not affected by anything electrical. That's strictly a mechanical connection. If your speedometer needle doesn't move when the car does, you need to check the cable. It runs from the back of the cluster to, I believe, the left front wheel.

 

x2 on the grounds, check the engine to firewall.
Weird that the speedometer isn't working?
Maybe the engine to body ground came loose and it grounded through the speedometer cable and messed it up? I've seen that happen with shifter cables, melts the plastic casing to a crisp.
