Lots of cars use a distributor & a starter. Want us to guess what you’re working on? The wiring is outlined in the color wiring diagram in your CSM.

And, it has a 455 engine I’ll guess? What distributor is in the engine? Is this a stock OEM engine? Not certain if 455 was an option in 1970 for an SX - just asking cause I don’t know but others will know. Do you not own the 1970 CSM?

The plug in your hand looks like the plug for the top of the TCS (Transmission Controlled Spark) solenoid. On my phone so can’t see with detail.

Obviously you don’t own the 1970 CSM which specifically demonstrates the starter & distributor wiring (as well as the remainder of the engine wiring). Did you look in the electrical forum for a sticky to see if there is a 1970 wiring diagram?

I don’t see a 1970 wiring diagram in the electrical forum. I have several other years but not a 1970 so best to have someone with a 1970 wiring diagram to help. Good luck.

Based on the non copper wire I would say that the wire with the red connector on it is the hot wire to the coil. Trace it back and see if it goes the fuse box connector. If it's not this one check the other wires to see which one isn't copper.

And in your other picture the large purple wire *may* go to the starter solenoid. Removed - not correct.

Is this harness the HVAC harness that comes through a grommet in about the middle of the firewall? If so, the black and green wires in the two wire connector are for the A/C compressor clutch. Green is the power feed from the compressor hold-in relay, black is the ground and should have a ring terminal at the other end. The heavy gauge purple wire is the power wire from the high speed blower relay to the blower motor. The other wire with the non-factory crimped ring terminal could be anything. Is it REALLY black, or is it dark blue, or black with a stripe, or something else. Wipe the insulation with a rag dampened in lacquer thinner and find the true color.

The TCS solenoid uses two green wires. One green and one black is the A/C compressor clutch.

Thanks, Joe. Correct. I was on my phone when 1st viewed & I really couldn't tell the color of the wires. Thanks for clarification. I will say this - a CSM would go a long way in assisting the OP.
