map light and how the bulb sits in the lense

I am trying to get the map light to work on my 72 olds cutlass convertible. See attached pictures. I think I am missing a piece that the light sits in the lenses

That map light holder uses a 563 bulb (as shown in the lamp use chart in the owner's manual and the CSM). The wire loops on the bulb hook around the two terminals that have the notches in them. The lamp holder on the right in the photo is not related to the map light. You might want to consider using an LED replacement to minimize heat damage to the lens.

Ok, now that makes sense. The small bulb must go in the ashtray?

I have looked for a place that the bulb would go and I don't see one. Thoughts or ideas?

As I recall, I haven't gone out to my car to look; but, IIRC the bulb socket is on the "side" of the ashtray compartment - I seem to recall it might have a green lens and it may be on the RH side?

1971 CS Ashtray Lens/Lamp. Your 1972 may differ in location.

I don't see a lens of any color or even a place for one. I have looked on the backside of the ashtray compartment and don't see a place to even attach the light. I really am at a loss

Thanks,

From what I recall the bulb/socket can be accessed from the glove box. Been 30 or more years since I replaced one of those so don’t quote me on that.
