light switch question - 75 Olds and others

On my H/O - 75 light switch. - Olds Cutlass Supreme/Colonade, I get dash lights, but have to turn the light switch up to just about the point where the interior lites are switched on! Seems like there's no gradual increase in the dash lights . Is this a bad rheostat on the control? Don't want to change the switch out if the new switch it going to act the same way! Maybe that's my only option to try the cure?

Spayed with contact cleaner, no luck. I had a switch so I swapped that out and things seem to work now! Took about 10 minutes which is one of the shorter duration projects on the car. Watched a video on how to release the **** and I was good to go!

CLR works well for cleaning contacts. I've diluted it with water 1:1, let it sit for 15 seconds or so and then rinse it with hot water and dry it thoroughly. Wear gloves and eye protection.
