installing stereo
installing stereo
I'm trying to install a new stereo into my 68 olds 98. It still has the original stereo in it, it just doesn't work. Now the problem I'm running into is getting power to my new stereo, I hooked up the speakers but am not sure which wires to connect to get power to the stereo.
Please help because I'm not a fan of driving around with no music.

Did you get a manual with it?

If it has a clock in it, it will requre both switched and unswithced power. The clock requres constant power. You should be able to take the switched power from the connector on your origianl radio. If you are not familar with the hookup, you may want to take it to somebody to install.
The unswitched power can be had from one of the car's orange wires that feed the clock or cigar lighter. The original radio's switched power was provided from a yellow wire and should be behind the radio location behind the dash.
Ground would be directly to the metal instrument panel.
As for the wires on the radio itself, you would need to consult the MFGR website or instructions as they all could be different. Sony has had a reputation for trying to be different and as non-standard as could be...
