Exclamation Installed a Pertronix III Today

I have been running a standard Pertronix unit and coil in my 70 442 for about 4 years now. It has performed flawlessly since I installed it.

When I saw the Pertronix III, I decided to upgrade.

Here is what I found:

1. The Pertronix III coil is significantly bigger in diameter than the stock coil or the standard Pertronix coil. I bought a repop coil bracket from Inline Tube, and modified it to fit. I had to trim off one of the tabs, and drill another mounting hole.

2. The Pertronix III unit mounts differently than the original Pertronix unit. The Pertronix III has a mounting plate that the unit screws into. The original Pertronix did not have one.

3. The Pertronix III unit mounts about 35 degrees away from the original Pertronix. You have to route the wires to be sure that they do not rub on the distributor shaft.

The rest is strait forward, and you need to have a full 12 volts to the coil to optimize the performance.

I left the distributor in the car. It is a little tedious, but easier than pulling it.

It fired right up, and I adjusted the timing.

Road test results coming, as it started to rain.
