"Inertia Switch?"
"Inertia Switch?"
Hi Guys! In a previously written thread by Joe P. (that I cannot find again) he wrote about using an "inertia switch" from a Ford Windstar van when converting to an electric fuel pump. Is this inertia switch the same thing as a "cut-off switch"?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

These were first put in Fuel Injected cars so that if the car turned over the switch would "drop" from the weight of the reset button. I had a Ford Crown Vic wagon with one of these and if you hit a big bump the weight would bounce up and cut off the voltage to the fuel pump.
I was rear-ended and the cops were going to call a wrecker since my car had died. I just lower the rear window, reached into the pocket where the switch was, reset it, and drove away. They had never seen anyone do that.
The best thing about these is that they normally will cut off power to your electric fuel pump if you have a wreck. With the pressure the fuel pump puts up, about 42 PSI, you don't want gasoline spraying all over if your fuel line had been damaged during an accident.
