Ignition Switch for Tilt Column

Ignition Switch for Tilt Column

I have bee trying to by an OEM Ignition switch for my 70 442 with tilt. The vendor kept sending me an aftermarket one. After several attempts the correct on arrived today but the plastic plunger is broken. Does anyone have an idea of what this part is for and if it is need?

It's simply an alignment pin used to hold the sliding contact in place until you get the switch installed and aligned properly.
